Walking Safe Cayuga Heights Sidewalk Project

BOARD OF TRUSTEES: The Village Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, and discussed this project with the public. After a discussion, the Board unanimously approved the 90% design drawings submitted earlier this month and authorized Fisher and Associates to proceed with bid documents for construction later this year. The final drawings will incorporate several refinements in response to the recent public feedback. Here is a link to the plans for this project.

UPDATE 3/19/2024: Work is scheduled to begin April 15th!

Bothar Construction plans to work from 7am-5pm on M-F for about 8 weeks. They are proposing to close the road to through traffic (always available to the few residences on Kline road). They have attached a proposed route to direct detour traffic around the work zone. Signage will be set up to inform motorists on alternate route(s). There may be limited/occasional traffic stoppage on Highland Road, but this will be handled with NYSDOT standard flagging practices.

UPDATE 4/11/2024: The Scope of Work for this project is to construct a new concrete sidewalk (with associated grading and drainage), from the top of Kline Road (at Highland Road) down to Wyckoff Road and then down to the east side of Cayuga Heights Road. Bothar Construction has been hired to do the work as engineered by Fisher Associates. Upon completion of the work within the contract, the Village DPW will begin the work to complete the sidewalk along Wyckoff Road down to the Lakeview Cemetery Entrance.

The project is schedule to begin on April 15, 2024 and should be completed within 8-10 weeks (see Bothar Schedule below). The Village DPW will not begin work on the lower sections until some time after June 1, 2024.

Bothar Construction’s Schedule of work is as follows (starting April 15, 2024):

  • Mobilization, Road Closure with Detour Installation- April 15th
  • Saw Cutting of Roadway for excavation- estimated 2 days to complete
  • Drainage Installation with pipe- Estimated 3 weeks to complete
  • Excavation and grading including subbase for new curb and sidewalk- Estimated 2 weeks to complete after drainage
  • Forming and pouring of sidewalk and curbing- estimated 2 weeks to complete
  • Restoration work: Asphalt, grading, topsoil, seed and mulch- 1 week to complete after sidewalk install
  • New signs and Striping- 3 days of work after all other work is completed.

The intent is to close the street to through traffic for the duration of the construction work. Residents will always be allowed to drive through the construction zone to reach their homes. Occasionally, you may need to approach your house from the opposite end of the street. When the time comes for concrete to be poured, Bothar will provide a temporary bridge across the new sidewalk for your driveway and front door access. Bothar will provide access for the mailman to drive through the site and also provide a temporary mailbox standard until ready for the final installation. Working hours will be 7am to 5pm daily, but not on weekends.
