KWC Donates Handmade Toys

The Kendal Woodworkers Committee (KWC) is a group of about 20 members who gather together and support each other in their woodworking endeavors. One particular endeavor is a project started 20 years ago by the late Bob Nafis and that is to make wooden toys, in the form of a truck, police car, dump truck or other such shape. These hand crafted toys worked on by the committee and reproduced in abundance are then donated.

Cops, Kids & Toys collects, purchases, and distributes toys and gifts to financially disadvantaged children. in Tompkins County Cops, Kids and Toys is entirely self funded and earns the money spent on toys and gifts through various fundraisers throughout the year. The program started in the early 1980‘s with two Ithaca City Police officers helping out a few children. As you might already know, the Village is very involved in this charity. Not only do we have a donation bin in our lobby year round but the monthly Cops, Kids and Toys board meetings are held in our meeting room here at Marcham Hall.

Fred Warner a member of the Kendal Woodworkers Committee for the past 18 years and instrumental in collaborating in their wooden toy crafting project, arrived at Village Hall Tuesday to hand over the yearly donation of wooden toys, this year they are trucks, for Cops, Kids & Toys annual Holiday Toy Drive. We would also like to give a special shout out to Bruce Calnek and Charles Wilcox as they were responsible for much of the assembly. What a special donation, thank you Fred!
